Default Kuryakyn Hypercharger

Good Afternoon all,

Hopefully I am not beating a dead horse, but I would like to inquire about the purchase of the Hypercharger intake for my 08' XL1200C. Does this intake hold any vast gains over any other intakes available and given that my bike is fuel injected, would I have to tune the engine to accommodate for the additional air flow?

BTW, the bike has a set of SE long pipes already installed.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What aircleaner/filter do you have now? What are SE long pipes? I have SE mufflers on my bike, but from 1991. They are definitely shorter than stock.

If someone put on mufflers, perhaps the intake has been upgraded already as well?

Can you post up pictures of what you have now?

The Hypercharger does not get a high rating, try NRHS, Hammer Performance, or DK for better products at reasonable prices.

John

To answer your question, No.
But it looks cool.

When looking at used bikes, the Kuryakn Hypercharger is a big red flag for me. It means the previous owner was willing to bolt damned near anything onto his bike with minimal thought.

What else did he do?

Then I walk right past it.

Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. That device is a solution looking for a problem! The widely held view is that it doesn't provide any worthwhile improved performance, in fact it can give problems. Much better, as already suggested, to use a conventional hi-flow normal style of filter unit. There are plenty of those available, including the SE unit, which your bike may already have.

The stock air filter has a black plastic back plate behind the chrome cover. Any other decent aftermarket air filter replaces that back-plate with a flat metal one. What is your back-plate like?

The Hypercharger was a cool thing back around 2002/2003. Seems because of the mechanical linkage, they can create more problems then it's worth.
IMO you would be better off with a DK Custom, Hammer, or Screaming Beagle intake.
