Default Question on Wheel Size

2011 Sportster Low XL1200L

Hey folks, I changed my front wheel from 19X2.15 with 100/90-19 Dunlop to a 21X2.15 front wheel with 90/90-21 Metzeler. My front wheel is a DNA Mammoth Fat Spoke Wheel with match SS rotor.

I would like to match the rear wheel with the front. Still have the stock wheel which I believe is a 16X3 with 150/80-16.

My question: Being that the stock is 16X3 and the only wheel that comes close for the fat spoke is 16X3.5....will the 3.5" fat spoke fit by playing with spacers like I did with the front? I believe the rear has more alignment concerns since the rotor is on one side and the sprocket is on the other. Your input is appreciated.

If this is not a drop-in type install and would need to adjust the alignment of the brake and pulley, may just pull the front wheel and buy a set of front and rear billet wheels that will drop-in. I also emailed DNA Specialties to inquire since I bought the front directly from DNA and not a reseller.

Please advise. Thanks

my front wheel

Sorry I can't help you out with your wheel question but I hoping you would answer a different question.

Who makes your front fender? Is it steel?

Sumax...
Sumax Composite Fiberglass Fenders

Our composite fenders are all made at our facility in Upstate New York with all 100% U.S.A made raw materials. Composite glass techniques make our fenders lightweight yet very strong. The top of the rear fenders have been structrually tested to withstand 28,000 PSI, that is stronger than your OEM steel fender. Fenders do not come pre-drilled so you can profile your seat for an exact fit and desired look.

It's only the rim which is wider than your stock wheel, as long as the new one is intended to fit your bike (like the front one) you should be fine. Use the same size tyre.

Thanks...yes will definitely use the same size tire as I do not have much leway for clearance.

The front was the same width just taller. Played with the spacers to accomodate different hub. Height was fine using narrower tires.

The back on the other hand is going from a 3 to a 3.5 width....not sure if that can be compensated with spacers without affecting the rotor or sprocket position and alignment.

I've squeezed in a 4.5" rim into my Glide, to replace the stock 3" one, without needing any spacers! On a Sporty there may be different challenges.

That's a good sign that it worked out on your Glide....but what kind of challenges are you referring on a sporty?

I haven't tried any mods of that sort on mine, that is all, I didn't mean to say that there will be problems! You may have to do something similar to what you did for the front, I can't imagine any more than that. I'm sure that other members have used those wheels, so hopefully someone will call by with firsthand experience.

Thanks for your input...a 4.5 from a 3 is a pretty big difference so .5 may not be an issue. Thanks again.
