Hi all. Thanks for the info on the 1200N. I enjoyed the input. I myself live in Alaska and there were no black nightsters left only 3 came up here. So I bought one At worth HD in Kansas City MO.
I fly out May 24 to arrive the 25. Im drive all the way back to Anchorage Alaska. 3797 miles.
Im so excited about the trip. I even focus at work. Its been a year since i sold all my crotch rockets. This is my first Harley. I didnt even get a chance to sit on any of the sportsters here, Since they dont have any around.
Im 36 and dont mind if the ride is hard as hell on the pavement. after the crappy long winter we had i just want to pound the road.
All my friends cant come cus they have kids. Reason why not to have kids...... any way
Im just looking forward to the trip. I love Canada the distance between towns and less traffic.
hope i dont run out of gas. lol
Coool another nightster owner.. I would suggest shipping the bike even though the ride would be cool. Two reasons to ship, you will need to get gas every 100 miles and the stretch between Vancouver and Ancorage I believe has no gas stops and is a dirt road (as I am sure you know) the second reason is breaking the engine in properly and the fact that you will blow the 1000 mile inspection which means you will need to stop somewhere and have the inspection done.I wouldn't pass up the inspection for a few critical reasons: the oil change, the final drive belt and primary drive chain will run way out of adjustment, neither of those will make it to 4k miles without being a problem.
Its probably $1000 to ship the bike..well worth it.
Ill probably stop in Billings montana and get my service there or ill just do it on the road.
I like to tinker any way. and know my round bikes. Im actually entering canada by way of montana and Alberta to edmonton and west to grand parrie then north via the AlCan Hwy. I grew up on that hwy so i know the road is paved all the way no dirt except where they are doing improvements.
Gas ya every 150 miles or so. Ill have my gps with me so no biggy. Dude its a bike make in the USA got all the confidence in it. If it brakes just fix it.
I should take about 6 days or less. I plan on stoping in sturgis, drive thru the black hills, and visit mt rushmore. to name a few stops that will require some time.
but just the backpack tent and sleep bag is all that is required.
