Default Primary and Transmission oil change the same thing?

I totally expect to get flamed for this post but am I at a loss? I am trying to change all the fluids on my 2006 1200R and when I look up primary oil change it is exactly the same as transmission oil change. Am I missing something here? Are they the same exact thing?

Thanks! Thought I was going crazy! So why do they sell transmission oil and primary oil then? Just seems strange to me

Because the big twins have separate holes for primary and trans. They do not share the same oil. The Sportster primary and trans share the same oil

Sounds like you need a factory service manual - it explains all this!

No it doesn't. I own it for a xl1200c, it does NOT menNOTn this. It gives 2 identical descriptions of the process in 2 different sections of the Factory owners manual. A little confusing for a newb. Plus they're not cheap. Searching the internet is cheaper, but with very skewed responses.

No it doesn't.
It gives 2 identical descriptions of the process in 2 different sections of the Factory owners manual.
So does it describe how to change the transmission lubricant or doesn't it?

The 2008 manual clearly identifies it in section 1.11.

I'm pretty sure the owner's manual and the service manual are NOT the same.

I have an '11 XL1200C and the transmission/primary lubricant section in the owner's manual has something like this to indicate the primary and trans are in the same cavity, and different than the regular motor oil.
