I have the 2017 883 iron. RSD 2 into 1 high track pipe, stage 1 intake and filter. I'm thinking of staying with stock compression. Is that 9.5:1? Anyway what are my options? If I do heavy valve springs to rev up to 7000rpm do I have to go with high compression? Can I do thunderstorm heads or ported and polished without high compression? What about ignition? I have seen mention of improved ignition systems. What about cams? It's a lot of questions but nobody talks much about all this stuff without high compression coming into it. I'll go high compression if I have to but I'm just curious. Thank you in advance for your help.
nobody talks about it? no.. there's just a strange hive mind thing going on here in hdforums where everyone just says the same thing over and over. expand your search:

It's not clear to me, do you already have the SE 883-1200 kit? Which one? They offer a couple of them.
EFI Sportsters (2007+) have the ignition controlled by the ECM. There is no separate ignition system. That's probably why no one talks about them.
Thunderstorm heads should never go anywhere near a rubber mount Sportster. That's an old head. Small fins and different mounting and although you could force-fit it, it would look odd. And there are much better options. Thunderstorms were great heads in their day. Their day has passed. Late model 1200 heads are far superior. Your 883 heads have the potential to be far superior for that matter.
The title of your post mentions SE kit, but you don't say anything about them or which one you have in mind. So are you set on going with an SE kit or open to other suggestions? Other than changing parts, what is your ambition with such mods? Rather than try to design a set-up yourself it is much simpler to buy a proven tuning package, also results are much more predictable by doing that.
As a simple example, by changing to larger bore cylinders and a higher CR, with your standard heads, you will get a very significant boost in performance. Suitably tuned the rev limit can also be extended much higher than stock.
What's your definition of high compression? To me, high compression set ups are race gas only. Can not use pump gas for high compression imho. 10-1 to 11-1 is extremely common and very reliable. Give hammers tech section a read! They have an 883 to 1200/1250/1275 article that will answer all most all of your questions. And they have a ginormous clientele running 10.5 to 1 !!!!
Thank you everyone. I have the 2017 iron 883. I have already done the SE 883-1200 upgrade. I want to get the most power I can without going to race gas, and keeping reliability. I have the RSD 2 into 1 high pipe with the vance and hines FP3 tuner. I have about 180 miles on the kit and was told to re-flash with the tuner at about 200 miles. I did that and now I have what feels like either water in the gas or 1 cylinder not firing a little when starting from a dead stop but then it clears up once I get to 2000rmp. Any thoughts?

not sure why theyed say reflash. You may want to auto-tune to smooth out that bogging.
