Default throttle sensitivity

While riding around town at 45 and under, it seems that my throttle is extremely sensitive. I mean, if I hit a small bump in the road or if I'm not holding my right hand rock solid, the bike speeds up slightly or slows down ever so slightly. Hard for me to put in words. Can this be adjusted so that the throttle is not as sensitive?? Not sure if I explained it right, hope someone else knows what I'm talking about.................

Well, I know what you mean.I don't think it's a throttle problem.

It happens to me sometimes. It's usually a bump that I am not expecting. If I see it coming, I canabsorbthe bump without it affecting my throttle control. When it happens to me,and I speed up, I tell myself: good thing I'm not on a hyper-sport bike right now.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just enjoy riding Pearl and Pearl will enjoy you.[sm=smiley20.gif]

Nice color by the way!

Most riders grab the throttle really tight, try to lighten it a bit on the grip and it should be ok, it happens to me from time to time but seldom.

There is a little star shaped adjustment thingy on the bottom side of the throttle. You can tighten it to make the throttle less sensitive. Be careful to not over tighten it because it is plastic and can strip easily.
I was having the same problems when I first got my 1200c as we have many bumpy roads here in town. When we got the wife an 883 in april the salesman pointed out that little adjustment to me.
Be careful to not tighten to much

I agree with 128auto. Relax your grip a bit. If you are not used to a twist throttle, it can seem kind of sensitive, but after a while you should get used to it. Also, check your hand position. If you have a "hand full of throttle" (meaning your wrist is not striaght, and your above the throttle), those bumps can make you jerk on the throttle. Your wrist should be kinda straight.

I am going to assume your bike is an 07 model? I noticed my 07 has a very "crisp" throttle response compared to my wife's 06. You can hit bumps all day on her bike without even noticing but the 07 took a little getting used to. I mean just the slightest throttle movement and that engine responds. But it's that crisp, snappy throttle response that makes the 07 so much fun to ride.

I noticed it on the Nightster. Really annoying. I think putting a wee bit of "slop" in the adjuster will help, but I haven't gotten around to doing it.

YEah, the most common solution is working on your throttle grip, and trying to anticipate bumps if you can. Although is some cases an overly sensitive throttle response can also be the result of a lean fuel mix in that range of the throttle.

This can be an issue with a Stage I carb'd bikes as much as an EFI, especially with a T-slide kit. Throttle is a bit more responsive with one.

What gear are you in? Lower gears will cause more of a surge along with a tight grip. If RPM's will bear it you can go to the next gear and that might help some.

Nothing to really adjust for this. You could introduce some slack in the cables but that would only affect you coming off idle and at WOT.

Time will work this out for you. Eventually you will adjust without thinking.
