Default A Harley Tracker is...

For you if:
1. You watched the Harley miniseries, Harley and the Davidsons, and heard them boast about taking a Harley Davidson anywhere. I took my FXDL on some fire roads... It was doable so long as I kept my feet on the ground when there was chaff on the hard pack. It made me miss my yamaha enduro.
2. You see that Indian FTR1200 concept, a Rusty Butcher 1250 modded bike, or even a XR1200 and think...mother****er, I like that. Recently, I went to the Long Beach, California International Motorcycle Show and saw a lot of great bikes on the red carpet. I had two favorites. One was a 48 that was modified into a tracker and the other is the number 60 Indian tracker made by Paulie over at JP cycles. I am pretty sure I will win that bike and will, somewhere deep in my soul, loathe myself for riding it. Who wants a ****ing Indian?

I have to admit though, it's a sexy looking bike and looks like it'd be a lot of fun to ride.

Harley Davidson... I sure hope you guys have some bad *** upgrades to the sportster line. I'd love to be proud to buy a HD tracker off the floor and go have a ball on the trails...

I know it is a lot to ask for the 2018.5 reveal that is coming in about 5 weeks but man, it would be a solid start to the new riding season. Whadduya say? And, if you are not ready to go until August then let's talk early admission to test riding a new one. If it's good then I'd be happy to evangelize a Harley tracker from San Diego, Ca. and even pay my way to HQ to help with testing.

throw a set of knobbly tires on the Roadster and you're not too far off a decent tracker...

You're right about that. A cheap 883 and a weekend taking it to a 1250, slap on some suspension, tires, and a high pipe and you're just about done. I've damned near considered doing it to my fxdl. It's a little silly because of the wieght but...

At the end of the day though, I'd like to see Harley do really well in business and go back to their roots. I'm a 3rd gen HD rider and would love to see my grand kids enjoy riding a Harley without having to buy a Yamaha/Suzuki/Honda...bike in order to enjoy performance. If they are going to really go after a younger market segment then go all in...especially with performance. There is no reason a HD has to be slow and lose to an Indian.

Well, I don't know if anyone is actually gonna build a Dyna tracker or not, but I will say that riding mine offroad was kind of nerve-wracking... Last year I was four days into a solo trip when I encountered a sign that said "Bridge Out, 12 Miles." I was in Tioga State Forrest, and had no cell service for phone or GPS. I encountered a random Park Ranger, who told me not to worry about, that there was a detour that I would be fine on. 12 miles later, I get to the closed bridge and discover that the "detour" is a very rocky dirt hiking trail in the forest, with a cliff on one side down to a river. It was about a mile long. A Dyna with Avon Cobras and 100lbs pounds of luggage wasn't the right bike for that.

But Harley Trackers do look cool!

Definitely a cool style. This is a Buell powered one my brother built a few years ago. He used a dirt bike throttle assembly which let it hit full throttle at about a 1/4 turn. It was a nasty little sucker.
