i did not realize when I asked whether you could mix (I was thinking of brand names) that the American elite II was a bias tire. I grew up with the advice of never mix bias and radials. I am 66 now and started riding motorcycles when I was 14.
I decided to replace the rear that I had plugged with another Michelin scorcher as I don’t want to replace both tires at this time (they are only a couple of months old). So I made an appt to get the rear replaced next week. When these tires wear out I will replace both with American elite tires.
I want to thank everyone for their input. It was greatly appreciated. Being a retired pilot, I have opted for the conservative solution.
After all “there are old pilots and bold pilots, but there ARE NO OLD BOLD PILOTS”

The dumlops that came on my 2005 xl1200c were most unsatisfactory. I ran Michelins and they were not worth the extre cost. Ran a pair of Perrelli MT 66 route and the bike was less steady. Replaced the rear Perrelli when it wore out with a Kenda Kruze and like this dombination well enough to be on my third rear and second front. The Kruze wears rather quickly, but I mount my own tires and for the better performance and cheaper price they are worth the trouble, for me.
