Default Swing arm Bag

Hello. New to the Harley world. Bought an 06 XL883C to play around with. Are swimgarm bags worth it? I’d primarily carry some tools, a hat, and water bottle. I’m looking to do away with a backpack but torn between a swingarm bag or small saddle bags (Thrashin Supply Essential).

Welcome,

The bags are useful to me, I put all the stuff in it that I don't want to put in my pockets .

Thanks for the input. I've seen stories where people get a swing arm bag, then find themselves wanting to carry more so they end up going with saddle bags later. I'm a pretty minimal person, so I think I'll be alright.

Thanks again!

Who makes a swingarm bag that doesn't get it the way of the LH passenger footpeg? Everything I found sticks out to far.

I've seen a few YouTube videos where the Willie and Max one doesn't stick out too far. And the passenger peg still seems to be useful.

I say it all depends on what kind of riding you're planing to do most. If your planning on using it for more than just running around town or just out for a daily run, yeah, just go with the swing arm bag. If you are planning on longer multi-day trips and may want to, oh lets say. carry two helmet shields (clear for night and tinted for days), want to carry extra water or quart of oil, liner for your jacket for colder night or cold mountain rides, a rain coat and pants, you get the idea. If the latter is your plan, go with traditional saddlebags.
