Unfortunatelymy first post here is also my first problem with my bike. I have a 2005 XL883 and I am having a problem keeping the engine running. She fires up fine but after a few minutes just shuts down. There are no abnormal noises, bangs, clicks, etc... As I was riding around yesterday the engine diagnostic light kept going on and off (at no particular time). I turned right around for home and thats when she just died. I fired her up right away rode maybe 200 yards and she shut down again. It did this about 3 times, it seemed like the longer I let her sit with the engine off the longer she would run. Is there some simple trouble shooting I can do or would it just be better to take her into the dealership?
Check for a loose battery terminal connection. I had a similar problem on my old honda. I thought there was something wrong with the electrical system, but it was a loose and dirty connection.
Checked my battery connections, everything was good. However, the battery that is in it now is a battery I purchased, filled, and charged myself. If I messed up somehow could that be the reason for the electrical demons?
Think I'd start by checking to see if the battery is being over charged. That might have done for your last battery......with the engine running, should be no more than 14.5v.......don't know If this would keep cutting your engine out tho.
