Looking to change out my stock shocks for something better. Any recommendations? Looking for much better rode hopefully. As.said in another post my neck is killing me and I think shocks big part. Ride.is really stiff.thanks
It all depends on your budget. The better shocks are gunna cost alot more. I would look at the progressive line of shocks. They have budget and some nice higher end shocks. I would also go alittle longer to gain some travel.
Think I might get these. Should I just tick with the same size? Current are about 11". Going taller will just give a little bit of a higher ride I suppose? Is it possible to go to 12-12.5" shock with stock being ~11"? TY
As with so many things in life, there is more to shocks than first meets the eye! A longer shock will indeed incease ride height and with many brands will also provide longer travel, to absorb bumps and thumps, although that is not guaranteed. Check the manufacturer's website. The more important thing is the quality of the damper design, which is what affects ride quality most and that is where buying more expensive shocks becomes worthwhile.
What I found with my 2011 SuperLow, bought new, is that not only were the shocks awful, but so also were the forks. They in fact sagged more than half their total travel, so when I installed longer shocks I also raised the forks, using aftermarket springs, and set sag correct. That raised front and back of my bike by simiar amounts, so I now have a Super-not-so-Low! When thinking of upgrading any Sporty's suspension I recommend checking out the forks first, as in some ways that is where we should really start.

Increase ride height, definitely. Longer travel to absorb bumps and thumps, not guaranteed as you aptly said.
For example, these 2 shocks will have the same performance when it comes to absorbing bumps and thumps:
Super new here myself, getting close to the 5k mile mark on my first bike a 2018 iron. I started reading up here on shocks after 400 miles. Lol...If I dropped 30lbs before i started to ride..I might not have noticed. But after much internal debating and some account switching so the wife wouldn't catch on, I went with Ohlins. I called Howard from MotorcycleMetals (a forum sponsor) tuesday of this week and now have tracking numbers for rears and a set of fork cartridges on their way.
