So I was riding home yesterday morning, and whencI stopped with left leg down I felt something. My pass pedal on that side has been dropping and thought that was it.
Nope, the battery cover was hanging down on the bottom hook. Got off the bike and snapped it back in place. So today I had an appointment with eye doc, and on the way home on the freeway.......you that sucker flew completely off and skidded dowon the side of the road. Luckily no one hit it, but some serious scratches.
Tried sanding and painting it, but realized I missed a couple spots. I ordered new clips form HD. Then decided to do a google search on the topic (did one here too but found nothing) and it seems to be a common issue.
I just use a zip tie to go in he hole in the cover and through the hole in the frame. Its not like I have to get in there often and if I do I just undue the zip tie.
The clips I ordered are supposed to be new and improved. Interesting looking at the video, it shows holes in the cover at the top. Mine has tabs on it like the new part shows, so this must have happened before. I will try them and see how they work. If not satisfied, I might just do the velcro straps. Just a little more hassle to remove, but cheaper than $100 the HD dealer quoted for a new cover.
If I cannot make paint look satisfactory, there is a powder coat shop in town. They have a $45 min, but still cheaper than new.
