Default Motorcycle Covers

Recently I noticed an orange sticker on a accessory phone mount has turned from bright orange to gray. My sportster is a daily driver to work and parked in a wide open parking lot, no trees or shades. I have already noticed the seat needs constant application of leather soap too. I’m thinking I should be covering the bike with a cover daily. Is it “going too far” to cover it daily? I’ve looked on amazon briefly for covers, there’s plenty to choose from $12 to $30. Any of these covers good, like in UV blockage, lightweight and fits a sportster with a sissybar? Can anybody recommend a cover. I’m not trying to be cheap but I also have to add the cover to a busy backpack for the commute, so I for sure don’t need a thick heavy cover. Any other ideas to prevent sun damage? The bike is a 2015 iron, it’ll repeat the work detail for another 6 years until retirement.

Difficult one. I've used covers in the distant past, but gave up on them. I never had a bike blown over, but the slightest wind can get under the darned things and actually damage them pdq. Hopefully someone will pass by with experience of a modern cover than can cope in all weathers.

Mine is always covered when not riding. By a garage. In the garage I put a full cover on the bike all winter. I have a Formosa cover from Amazon. Amazing product, it has connections to prevent it blowing off.

I only cover my seat, and air filter. The rest is pretty UV / weather resistant.

Let us know what you come up with, and how well it works.

I bet the combination of wind and the cover will do more damage than the sun, plus you would have to wait to install the cover until the engine and exhaust cools down.
I'd just keep applying the leather soap or other UV protectant to the seat and black rubber bits and use a good quality wax on painted parts. One thing that you can't protect is the speedo/tach face which always shows age from the sun, you could just use a small stretchy hat (touque) on that which wouldn't take up much space in your backpack.

I have a cover I bought that I use rarely but when I have used it worked well it fits the bike like a glove once it is on the bike you fasten it along the bottom first and then it has a draw string on the top that is laced like a shoe from the handle bars to the tail light, once you snug that up there is no way any part of it that can flap in the wind and has protective area for hot pipes. I paid around $140 for it. it is a HD cover

I have two covers by Exigent … they do what they are to do and the fold up real small incase I want to take them along … they will fold to something like 7x10 and a couple inches thick … Exigent has a site but last time I checked you have to call them to order
