Default Engine compatibility

Hey guys, I'm new to the forums and just has some questions. I've got a 2004 Sportster Roadster and just Blew my motor. I was just wondering what year engines were compatible with the 04 frame if it was just the 04-06 or if newer rubber mount engines would work.

Anyway Thanks for any input!

Total guess here really, but the 04-06 will obviously drop straight in , but i would think all the later ones will be ok apart from being fuel injected. So you will have to change inlet manifolds etc.
I believe the '07 on had stronger crankshaft assemblies.

Define "blew my motor." What happened?

I've just bought a 2004 Roadster myself . What exactly do you mean by " Blew " your motor ? Could this have been avoided and what would you have done differently if you were given the chance ? I don't mean to rub salt into your wounds but I have a lot invested in my Harley .

Default Wheelies ?

I've just spotted a possible clue in your signature logo . You wouldn't by any chance have been pulling wheelies on this bike ?

I took it to my local shop and that's just what I was told. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, so I decided to start tearing my engine apart. The first thing I did was open up the primary. AND I WILL NOT BE GOING TO THAT SHOP AGAIN.. I found that it was just the nut on the Compensator sprocket that was loose.. put lock tight on and torqued the nut to 160ft lbs let the lock tight curve and test rode it and it's totally fine! Thanks for all your input, and sorry that I didnt respond I've been really busy.

No worries.

BTW, there is no compensator, so we're just talking about the primary sprocket nut then?

Glad you caught it before it went nuclear grenade on you.
