Default Need some help.

I have an 04 883 sportster, less then 13,000 miles. Last night i went for a ride stopped a few places. At one stop, she was running just fine, then everything died, motor shut down, lights turned off. Did that 2 times last night. I replaced a few fuses that werent bad, but just worn. Checked the big 30 amp and it is fine. Took her out today and she was fine until i got on the last bit to get home, then she backfired a few times, the check engine light came on, and the speedometer went from 45 to 0 a few times. All while continuing forward movement. Checked the battery connections and they seemed fine. I am scratching my head on this. I cant find any breaks in the wiring or any other obvious cause....

Did you check if both ends of the battery cables are secure? When power goes off like that, it is a indication of a grounding issue (or fuse but you already checked that).

I checked the battery terminals and the negative was able to be tightened down, but it wasnt what i would call loose (able to pull the cable away from the battery), it was touching the entire time, and obviously i had to put the pos cable back on and that is tight, i am just trying to figure out if this could be a symptom of a larger issue.

Disconnect both battery cables at both ends, wire brush and/or sandpaper them, apply dielectric grease to all 4 ends, reattach the cables snuggly and you should be fine. As previously mentioned, it is most likely a grounding issue for which the Sportster is notorious. The ground cable is a royal pain to remove and reattach, but is likely the source of the problem.
