Default Foot Peg adjustments

Hi,
I have a Sportster 883 Superlow. When I'm riding i find that the pegs are too far away from the bike and my legs are splayed. Is there a way to adjust them? Bring them in closer to the bike? Does anyone else has this issue? I'm short - 5'3". Not sure if that's why though. I find my feet rest on the metal closer to the bike. My previous bike was a Street 750 and it was a perfect fit. I'm loving my new bike but my hips aren't! Suggestions?

Hi Lisa from the UK and welcome to HDF. Fellow SuperLow owner here. The stock footrests are awful aren't they? Look ugly and get in the way. I have solved mine, sort of, by changing to XR footrests:

It does make the bike a bit more comfortable and I have also dumped those darned spikes. The only way I know of to cure the metal spacer problem is to remove them from the bike and have them machined, if you can find a local machine or custom shop. I considered doing that myself, but am happy with my handiwork so far!

Hey! Thanks for the reply. I'll likely change up the pegs. Talked to the parts guy at the dealership where I bought it and we came up with a couple of options that should alleviate the problem. At least I hope so! I'd also like to get rid of the spikes. They're only good for gouging legs when you walk by them.
I'm glad you found a solution for yours! I'll be going the route of machining them if everything else fails. Have a great day!

Thumbs up

I drew blood on one of those darned spikes in my garage, moving around between bikes with bare legs! They had to go. I've actually had several bikes with them and they screw off easily enough using a suitable wrench.

Yep, Got rid of mine yesterday while installing the forward controls. I have a scar on each leg now from a month with these things...

Unfortunately it is what it is. With the footpeg also supporting the back brake lever the footrest is that extra couple of inches further out than perhaps it needs to be.

When I look down at my foot placement it is not directly on the foot peg but over the mounting pin.

It won't make any difference what shape peg you fit it will not sit any closer to the bike than what you have at present.

I saw this custom peg mount on xlforum and saved the link. Site is Japanese and now idea how ordering would work, but it may be what you're looking for. It should move the right side peg in about 3/4 of an inch. I don't think there's anything that can be done about the left side mount though.

Might be worth sending them a message via their contact link. They may be able to read and write in English, or know someone who can! Living in the UK I often tell members that buying from the USA is darned expensive, due to high shipping costs, also import duties. I haven't tried to buy from Japan, but the same comments may be true!

Probably the best solution, certainly the most comfortable, is to go with Floorboards. You can see details on them HERE. I found they made a HUGE difference for me. You will have a lot of adjustment flexibility and more real estate to put your feet where most comfortable for you.

I think this is missing the point for the OP. She would like the pegs closer in. I guess she would in some ways like one does on a sport bike be able to squeeze the tank.
