I used to ride big (then) British singles and twins, and my favorite was a 30 in. Ariel single I used for riding cow trails. Seemed like it didn't matter what gear or what speed. Twist, and if the gear was high the sound got loud and a little flat, but you couldn't kill it. It just moved on. Loved that noise. Thump, THump, THUmp, THUMp, THUMP. Each THUMP = 3 feet. Up the pole, down the pole, etc. My new 1200C has a whole lot more heft and power, of course, but it behaves a lot like that Ariel. The bottom end torque and the sound of using it pushes my personal button, and I'm lovin' it. The OM shifting recommendations seem to support using the low end of things too, (go to 5th at 45). BUT, I'm fretting a little because it gets kinda hot, idles faster, and etc. unless it's ridden holding higher revs. I don't know its habits yet, so anybody got an opinion on this? Anyone else likes thumpin' around?
