I just picked up a used (obviously) 07 Sportster 883 Custom and it only came with a key. When I turn the key to ignition, a red key light shows up on the speedo for a few seconds then disappears. I know from my friends having newer bikes with security that they have to have a fob or use the code to start the bike. Being that this key light comes on, does mine have security? It starts no issues and no turn signal flashes when moving the bike or after turning it off.
My guess from mine, it has it. It's the signal light/ alarm box. You just need a fob button. Lucky they left it off. Report back what you find out and it they can mate it to another fob

Hello old chap, which of the many Dovers is your home? If your bike is a US spec the alarm was an option AFAIK, however if it is a UK export spec it will probably have had a factory fitted security system - at least my 2003 Dyna did. If your bike rides normally then I wouldn't get distracted by that light, your bike probably never had any security. If you don't have an owners manual, which should give you specific details, you can download one for free from the H-D website, via the Owners tab.
Well, called the dealer. They told me that the light means absolutely nothing and if it starts and rides fine not to worry with it. Which, all along was my concern. I didn't want to be out somewhere and have the bike decide to arm itself.

Also, PA's Dover.
Ah, thanks! I'm not so far from the original one, which is why I asked. Glad you're happy with your bike!
