Default Looking for fairing advice

Who has what and what works?

I'm specifically looking for something that allows for easier cruising at 80mph. I run a full face, 6' tall, mini apes. I wear a fitted vest which actually helps a lot.

I've tried the Dart Flyscreen which is like a 9" see here and was no better than the mini fairing. Good till about 65/70.
Then I tried the Memphis Shades Rio Grand see here which is a 19" and it actually made things worse. Took blast off my body and diverted it all to my head. Really pushed my nugget around at speed.
I'm currently running the mini fairing (Iron) which works better than the Dart. Breaks up just enough wind to keep me comfy up till about 70.

I really don't want a gigantic Heritage style windshield that I have to look through.

Anyone here run a tall Rifle or T-Sport type that actually works at speed?

If I could just cruise a little more comfortably at 80mph I'd stop freaking thinking about buying a 25K touring model!!! For now........lol

Please list your height for reference. Thanks!

I've been riding behind fairings and windshields of various styles for over 50 years. As for the T-Sport style of fairing, I owned an FXDXT for many years, but added an extra-height windshield, which was certainly capable of what you are after.

I will also emphasis that you get as much protection as the size of the thing you sit behind! On my SuperLow I use a H-D qd windshield #57801-11. I have mine set so I can see comfortably over it and believe it is not advisable to routinely look through a windshield, although I can slouch behind mine if required.

How tall are you? How was the FXD fairing at 80mph? Not that you would ever go that fast.... .

I def don't want the style you have on the Low.

Fairings are like seats. Seems like you gotta buy like 7 of them before figuring out what works! Wish there was ways to try some of these parts!

I also used a fairing and windshield....the fairing took the wind off my body, however had to experiment (tried 5 windshields) with different shape and height windshields to get it right. I could cruise comfortably at 60-70 with no issues (don't cruise at 80 lol).

I am vertically challenged but the point is that you would need to play with the windshield shape/height to get the wind moving where you want it to go. Here was my 1200 low....used beach bars not apes.

If you notice, the windshield in the 2nd pic is different from the first....the windshield in the first pic worked best for me.

Whatever you get, as stated, you should be looking over the windshield and through. I believe the standard height is the top edge of the windshield level with the tip of your nose....you should be able to see 50 ft in front of you over the top of the windshield..

I'm only around 5'7", but there is some vertical adjustment available on my shield. There are also extenders we can add, which have a great benefit, partly to add a little extra height, but also to redirect air flow off the top of the shield.

Living in the UK I am not far from German autobahns, which have no speed limits! Of course I've ridden well over 80mph on many of my bikes - I almost managed the magic 'ton' on my old Glide for heaven's sake....

Buttercup my Buell, with her adjustable extender, other styles are available:

Added later: standing height is no guide to seated height! A pal of mine is several inches taller than me when standing, however at eye-level when we are seated, so don't pay too much attention to how tall I am.

I'm 5'7" and ride a 2013 XL1200C and am happy with my SlipStreamer 16" and is very comfortable at highway speeds.
I do get buffeting from below near the tank...
SlipStreamer has quite a few shapes and sizes to choose from.
Note: Yeah, You should normally look over your shield.

I have a Memphis Shade windshield that is just below my eyes. I also added Memphis Shades lower wing wings. They prevent turbulence. I am comfortable at any speed. 80 mph is no problem. I also ride an Ultraclassic that is more comfortable so I know what comfort is. There are other options as well. I have built a few touring style Sportsters and a Superglide. A small windshield isn't much better than no windshield.

I use a dart on my sporty. Had to raise it a quarter inch to get the air where I wanted it. Good to over the ton. Without it it's brutal even at 70.
