Similar thing happened to me today. some stupid c#&t in a cage pulled out in front of me, giving me no time to even slow down. two lane road, ( running the speed limit will get you run over on this road ) 70mph, traffic comeing towards me, all i could do was "tight rope" the yellow line. ( try that on a Road King ) after i got clear, i pulled into an empty parking lot and darn if this woman didn't pull in behind me and start yelling at me. seems i made her drop her cell phone. i politely told her about her pulling in front of me, she said that didn't matter. so i repeated myself on her fender. she got the message. and some future body work on her acura to boot.
I was involved with a similar experience while stationed in Germany about 15 years ago. Only it was much less exciting than yours. Two lane road, no shoulder. I was going about 65 mph, and the oncoming van was going about the same. A BMW bike tried passing the van, but he didn't have room! I just simply moved over as far as I could, the van did the same, and the BMW shot the centerline at probably 90 mph or better. We all met each other at the same time. I mean,it was almost like it was choreographed well in advance. There was just enough room for the van, the bike, and my car abreast on the road. Nobody slowed down, everyone stayed calm, and nothingbad happened. I don't see that happening here in the states, though. You had a VERY close call! Glad you're ok!
Charlie, thank god you are okay man. I think I would have followed the douche bag and done the ole break off the mirror and hand it to him and say, "Do you see me now????"
About a week ago, I used my hand signal in coordination with my turn signal to make a right hand turn off a road where there was only one turn and it was RIGHT. I caught the idiot behind me trying to go AROUND me on the right hand side.. Ultimately if I hadn't moved over to block him he would have T-boned me as I turned and probably killed me. It dawned on me shortly after that this moron didn't know what the hand signal for RIGHT TURN WAS. He obviously thought I was signaling a stop and was going to go around me. Ignoring my turn signal and misconstruing my hand signal. Damned if you do, damned if you don't sometime. Best you can do is hone your defensive skills.
Glad everything turned out okay brother C!! Angels were definitely looking out for the two of us.
