Default What pipes?

My 883 has the stock pipes on it and I kinda like the sound, but I want something louder and a better look. The problem is, I kinda have a tight budget. What pipes would ya'll recommend

I run the 1200c, and I can say for budget and performance I have heard nothing but good about Cycle Shack. They sound good and loud, are cheap - especially if you get a deal on Ebay... if you do your own wrenching you can really do an install on the cheap!

I will say that the wrenching was out of my league. Could have pulled it off with human direction, but had none. So went the HD route and payed dearly.

I went with a full pipe change, with V&H SideShots... they were $450, plus the HD install of $400 or so.

If you bought yer own stuff:

Cycle Shacks - $150 or $200
A/C - $110
Jets/Seals - $20

Looks like $300 could get you going...

I know its a far shot from $800 that I spent... let us know which way you went!!
I saw a pair of SEIIs that had a small scrape UNDERNEATH that went for like $50! Look around and find a deal!!!

Thats a pic of my SideShots... they rock and are loud, but my friend had Cycle Shacks and I thought his sounded VERY close, even louder than me when he was in front. I think you'll be overly happy with any cheap slip-ons because they change the bike SOOO much.

Later.

Paulie

SE II's, slip on's. Install yourself, about 30 minutes, $250+ bucks for mufflers and new exhaust gaskets.

Khrome Werks, deep sounding low and throaty, about $220. Loud too.

For what its worth, I went with the V&H Straightshot Slip-Ons on my '05 1200C. They are approx. 1/2 the price of the HS pipes and they definitely will make a Harley sound like it should. Great sound at idle and into the throttle, but not bad while in cruise. I got mine from Directparts.com which will ship for free if order is over $250. Pipes $220 + Jet Kit $85 = free shipping. However, tooling around online last night I found them for $212 at Morepoweracing.com with no minimum amt. for free shipping. I haven't seen them any lower priced than this. I just went with the Screamin' Eagle air cleaner from the dealer due to the fact that the K&N was nowhere to be found locally so I called K&N directly and they said the filter was on backorder (6-8 weeks -- No way!!) 'Did all the work myself and saved $$$ and have never done any carb. work before. If there's anyone who can tell me what I missed out on by not going with the $425 HS's I'd like to know.

Gotta get gone. I think dust is settling on the bike now.

Cycle Shacks are probably the best value for the money...About $170 for slip-ons. If you want to spend a little more, Khrome Werks makes a real nice HP+ pipe that in my opinion sounds and is engineered better than Cycle Shacks. Vance & Hines is good too but you'll spend more money on them than Cycle Shack; they are equivilently priced to Khrome Werks Roughly $220-$250 for slip ons.

I have Sampson shorties in my 02 sportster an I love the sound. My only complaint is when I wear a helmet, it seems to resonate inside and makes my ears ring. I have found that if I put the shield up even slightly it stops that problem.

Thanks,
Tim
