Default Fuel range

I tried to search this but didn’t have much luck so it’s easier to just ask.

Finally got the daughter off the Suzuki 800 and on a sporty 1200.
Found a mint 2007 with 3200 miles. She’s in love.
Has the 4.5 gal tank.
My math tells me that she should be able to go approx 180 miles to empty.
We are consistently doing 2.5gal in 115-120 miles….45-46mpg
The fuel light is on at that point.
My manual says 1.2 gal is reserve
Sooo 2.5+1.2???
Just curious if others hit light around 115
Story on bike, owner drilled baffles 🤦🏻‍♂️
But appears that’s all looking
Old man did say he “installed them high flow injectors and high pressure pump and regulator”…..
Says he got it all from Harley.
Says he thought they were Andrews, but not sure.

Photogdave, sounds like a 3.3 gal tank to me. I get 110-115 before low light on my 883 with 3.3 tank with similar MPG.

I like to fill up before the 125 mile mark on a 3.3 gal tank. I get a little nervous going further than that.

Post up a picture of your bike. Should be easy enough to tell the size of tank fitted.

Supposedly by the owners manual the Low has a 4.5 Gal tank
Yours is what they call the peanut tank. In my opinion your tank looks better, but I was hoping for more range
the Suzuki she was on had 2.5 gal tank
110 tops on fumes.
That can be a problem sometimes
We ride 300-400 miles on Saturdays
Theres been times we’re 50 miles in to a tank and turn a corner on a country road and pass the last gas station for 70 miles.
At least with 170-180 mile range that’s not a problem
Guess I could drain tank and fill it to see what it holds
Guess it could take computer some time to adjust light threshold
My Dyna super glide takes a tank or so to adjust range readout after I ride solo.
For instance wife is usually in it with me, my range after fill up is around 200 +/-
When I went to Keys in April, I figured I’d be the gas stop guy at 200 every time.
I was solo and after a couple tanks it began to change the range to 245-250

After looking at pictures of various bikes including my own it does look like a 4.5 gallon tank.

We serve up fuel by the litre here and my bike has 5 to 6 litres left when the low fuel lamp comes on.

I have just fitted a fuel gauge which has a range function. It thinks I can get around 210 miles to empty.

By the way, love the yellow !!! I have a 2011 TriGlide and get 160-170 miles before low light. They say it should have a gallon left at that point on a 6 gal capacity.

If you have the stock speedo and not a fuel gauge then the low fuel light is a simple float actuated switch in the tank.
