Hi Everyone

Dreams come true, and I managed to buy a 2010 HD Sportster XL1200n Nightster.
I always had japanese bikes and nothing compares to this. It is f***king amazing.

I need you help in the following as I am newbie on this.
So the HD came with Screaming Eagle Filter, and a Typhoon Slip on, exhausts, does this means it is Stage 1?
I went to a HD dealership and they asked me if I had the "tuner" for the screaming eagle. I spoke with the previous owner and he said, he was never given anything like this.
I have all the "original stuff", like the slip on exhaust, and the air filter. do you reckon it is better to have it fitted again?

Thanks in advance for helping me out.

PS: the version I have does come with rpm meter near the odometer.
PS2: I will upload photos as soon she is ready for it.

I can tell you that after you start to alter a HD, it will cost you. Stage 1 is not completed until its tuned to stage 1.

This will sound nuts, but Id put all the stock stuff back on, see how it runs, save your bucks (about $1500) on average to do a full dyno tune.
Thats what they do at the shop I used to work at. 90% of the time it was one of the after market parts.

I tired the usual way with my last bike. I bought several sets of pipes, several tuners, and lots of other stuff to make it run good.

My new bike, I did as little to it as possible , to keep it stock. Just changing the mufflers cost 10 mpg

Thanks for the input.
I will put everything back and see the behaviour.

The older bikes like yours didn't seem to be as sensitive to changes as the new ones. I've had a lot. I read that if you changed air cleaners and ran your bike for about 15 minutes and put new mufflers on (not a complete set of exhaust from heads back)and run the bike for 15 minutes, then you wouldn't have any problems. The computer would adjust to the changes. It always did with no popping back and the plugs always looked good. This won't work with the new bikes. If your plugs look good, you'r going to be OK. l hope this helps

Welcome cmurta,
For the small amount of labor involved, I'd do this as well. Then you'll know your bike's behavior in stock form and you'll have a "baseline" to compare any changes made going forward.

Harley can give you a stage 1 download. They can probably can check & see if it has been done already. They charged me $150 for one a while back. But I regretted not buying a tuner with that money because I added cams later on. I can't imagine someone would add pipes & high flow air cleaner and not download a map for it.

I think it would be worth getting a dealer to check if the ECM has been remapped. I would try and negotiate that $150 down if that is what they ask.

Yes, it was most likely tuned and the owner didn't purchase the tuner, if the upgrades were done at a dealer. If it runs fine, don't worry and just ride.

Hi All.

Quick update, so I managed to track down the original owner, and he believes the dealer shop did not gave him the "tuner device".
He knows it has been tuned.
I spoke with the dealership which is no longer a HD dealership, and he remembers the HD, however he cant remember about the "tuner device":
He asked me to bring the HD in so he could check.
Without this I cant even put the bike on standard mode because they need to "reflash" the ECU.

What can i do at this stage?

Sorry in advance if I sound silly with any term whatsoever.
