Default Dubble oil problem...

I have a -88 Sportster XL 883 and a problem...
When I leve the bike alone for more than 4weeks almost all of the oil goes in to the engine sump. I have change the valve ball and checked the "valve seat", so maybe it goese thrue the oilpump?
Anyways, when the engine is "fludded" with oil it tens to go to the transfercase beacuse the oil is ingresing there over time.
Does anyone reconise this?
Sorry for bad English I from Sweden.

Are you sure it's getting into the primary case? That's possible, but extremely rare from what I've ever read. I think a recent post on xlforum.net addressed the issue, but it's the first time I've heard of a failed crankshaft seal. On this forum, or xlforum.net.

Oil leak down seems common, my bike has very little to none, and it's over 31 years old. Every bike seems to be different in this respect.
Just let it idle for a bit longer, then it should be fine, and normal for a Sportster. Wet sumping is more of an issue at sustained high speeds than just refilling the oil tank after a rest.

MikeLi on theXLForum had that happen on his 2003 Sporty . I recall maybe one or two more but could be wrong. It is rare though.

Thank you for your reply and your comment about the leak down problem.
The engine had this problem before I made a big engine rebuild when the connectingrodd+bearing was replaced and all seals in the engine ofcourse was replaced.
So if there is no other way to the transfercase for the oil to take i must have a crack or something i guess..

It is possible it's the gasket between the two halves of the case failed at the point where it separates the engine from the transmission.

The good news is you would not need a new case, the bad news is you would still need to split the cases to fix

Thats a possibility.. I will remove the transfer cover, clean everything, fill her up and see where the oil gets through.
Will update in the tread if someone else gets this strange problem in the future..
