Default Nap time

Ok - I know there have been countless threads about winter storage, here's one with a twist - I figured out the 32" door situation and have a nice little spot in my office where the bike will be napping in a pleasent 68 deg climate controled area - since I plan to tinker with accessories and can start her up, and get her warm (vent hose to the outside through a window) - should I remove the battery? - I'd rather not but then I don't want to f this up either. One neat thing I had done on my last bike, since the battery negative is in such a ****** of a place to get at, I had it oked by my dealer to switch the negative battery terminal location with two ground wires located on the left, lower case - it's a lot easier to access. This came about because of the all to frequent battery chargings I experienced with the last bike. Any reson not to do this again? Seams like a ground post is a ground post - and I'll be accessing the battery cable more than the other ground wires. (hopefully)

How about a battery tender (trickle charger) with quick-disconnects? My bike came wired from dealer with quick-disconnects that the dealer installed.

I have to agree with Primo on this one. I used a Battery Tender for 9 years on the same battery over the winters with the Tender's quick disconnects he mentions - worked great! The bonus was that on a nice day, the bike was all ready to go. Just pull apart the quick disconnect and away I went.

Another vote for the battery tender...once you put the quick disconnects on, you're plug and play!! Or, I guess UNplug and play?! Anyroad, you can tuck the battery-side terminals behind the left-side cover and no worries! The charging cycle is also said to maximize battery life by allowing a charge discharge cycle. By the by, send pics when you get her tucked away in the office....

BITD,

My Sporty came with one of those quick disconnect thingies........You just plug it into that?

I thought you had to put the clamps on the battery....... that would be cool if this is the case as I don't like to mess with batteries.

metalgirl247,

As long as the quick disconnect is connected to your battery, that's a 10-4 on all you have to do. If your bike came with it, you should be good to go!

I posted this in another area, in answer to someones question concerning battery removal:

The nut size is 11mm (go figure on an americian Icon) Best get to get the nut is a basic universal joint, extension w socket and reach it from the right side of the bike with it on the jiffy stand - it helps to magnatize the wrench set up (15 - 20 strokes with an old speaker magnet). I had a problem whith my battery going flat, so I asked the dealer and they oked me changing the ground location to the left side case - the ground there is an easier get - I just switched those wires to the origonal battery ground.
Funny thing in answering his question, I found it easier to leave the ground wire location for the battery where it is

Metalgirl,

any chance of posting a pic of this thingiey? - not sure what I'm looking at
