I wear a 3/4 with Wiley X1 goggles, or my wife's HJC full face with the mirrored visor when it strikes my fancy. The main thing is, you gotta keep the old noggin protected.
Got to admit that I usually don't wear the helmet, but in cold weather, the full face Arai is my choice. Guess I should wear it 100% of the time when riding, but I like the wind in the hair too much!
I kind of like "thumpers" answer. Here in California the Highway Patrol wear 3/4 or 1/2 (guess as to size), yet definetly not full face. I wear a HJC AC12 full face carbon fiber all year round.
Just remember one thing about helmets bro ! The helmet is not just for crashes.....It is also for sheilding your face and head from flying debris....like rocks, truck tire retread pieces, japanese beetles, birds, owls, nails, bolts, nuts, and lotsa other things that i personally have had fly up and hit me or almost hit me over 30 years of riding motorcycles and of course from hail, rain, windburn, cold air, etc.....Its your choice, and thats the way it should be ! Good luck to you .
if you want advise I will give it to you . buy the best full face helmet you can find ( I dont mean the most expensive , I mean best rating) and the same for a riding jacket gloves and boots. spending 700-800 dollars on safety gear may seem steep but, my buddy laid his 1200 custom down last night and they had to sew his chin back on. Im sure the emergency room ambulance ride and hospital room are going to come to way more than 800 bucks.
now opinions are like butt holes everybody has one you heard mine. I am not going to call you or anybody else stupid for choosing either way. its your head your life and your buisness not mine.
DOT brain bucket. I have 3 full-face helmets from days gone by (Arai is the most comfortable), but I can't stand to wear them since I started wearing a skid lid. Occasionally, I'll wear a 3/4 helmet with a face shield that I've istalled helmet speakers into (check your local laws). Sounds great and I can wear myprescription glasses, but it's rare I use that helmet. Usually I prefer hearing the wind and my bike, whichadds to theillusion/sensation of speed.
As for advice, what jwb47 said. All the gear all the time.
I have 3, same as everyone else here it seems. Full face KBC modular for cold, freeway and long hauls. DOT half shell for short trips or really hot days and a non DOT "novilty" helmet for putts around town so my 5 year old Daughter doesn't give me a hard time for not wearing a helmet. She does't know it wouldn't keep my head from cracking like an egg. At least wear something but freedom of choice is a good thing. I still let the wind in my hair on occasion.
i only have one helmet.and its a full face modular unit.i don't always wear it like i know i should but i always do if i know i am going to get caught after dark in the rain or get on the interstate.
