This may seem like a stupid question, (but thats why I signed up, I'm full of stupid questions) What kind of helmet do use while riding your Sportster, half, open or full (is it even acceptable to use a full face on a Harley?)

I wore a full face when I had a sportbike, but then switched to a 3/4 with a face shield when I got my harley (it came with the bike).. I wore that for a while, but have recently switched back to my full face helmet. I like the protection of the full face helmet.

I mostly wear this AGV Dragon 3/4 style helmet. I like that the face shield only comes down to the bridge of the nose, doesn't feel claustrophobic but stills blocks most of the bugs and other flying objects. I wear Panoptics day/night goggles with it for additional eye protection. Only draw back was that it took several weeks to break in.

Skid lid when the weather permits. Full face only when it is extremely cold. The only other time that I wish I would have worn a full face helmet is when driving through bad construction with limestone dust and debris flying everywhere from big dump trucks, etc. Man, that sucks!

Here in Tx, you'll be riding with a skid lid the majority of the year.

What I can't believe is the range of prices for helmets. You can get a HJC that has all of DOT approvements, etc. but only costs $100 or so.

Then you move up to Arai or Simpson and you can pay up to $700.

Don't intend to hijack the thread, but is it worth paying that much extra for a helmet? Is it for the comfort, features, brand name or all three?

Use what you want! Whatever is most comfortable to you. Now thatI have gotten all of the PC BULL5H!T outta the way.....
I live in a state where we are FREE to choose and I choose not to wear one at all. I don't ridicule anyone who wears one. Just like I don't citicize anyone who wears brown boots or fingerless gloves. It's all in what YOU feel comfortable wearin. Live free, ride free, and be free... that's what it's all about.

I ride with a full face helmet when cruising the interstate and know I'll be going speeds in excess of 50 mph. I don't want to eat bugs or have a bug hit me in the face without protection. Dental work costs a lot of money(and is painful)as well and if you go face first into the road a full face helmet will afford you some protection that the other styles do not.

It's your choice and your noggin' and face.

i wear a half helmet almost all the time, just becasue i like the feeling of it, i cant stand a full face but i wear it in the cold. its all about what you prefer, dont let others tell you whats cool or uncool. wear what you want and dont give a second thought to what others think about you!

I have a 3/4 HJC AC-3 I wear the majority of the time. When cool weather strikes, I put on the face shield. Cooler weather I put a bandana around the face or a lightweight balaclava, switching to my Vega modular full-face as the mood strikes, or the length of the ride dictates. Cold enough for frostbite, I'll wear the modular. I'm thinking of getting anHJC modular to replace the Vega. It simply feels betterto me.

I wear a full face modular, also. It fits easily with my glasses so when it is hot I run with the visor up. The guys at work give me a hard time about it, but it's not their head and face. I have everything from rocks to birds hit my helmet.
