Am I correct in that the 2006(?) 883L uses a shorter kickstand spring? I've tried (2) different 3.7" springs and they BOTH were so long they wouldn't fit. Thanks in advance.
So back to the original problem? Why not get a HD spring?
The letters are HD making a modification or superseding the part in some why, maybe a different supplier. As it has to be essentially the same part to work you might not see a difference.
I had the chrome removed from my XL883N's stock jiffy stand and I had it powder coated in gloss black, I never could understand H-D's reasoning for installing a chromed stand on their "Dark Custom" machines.
The coils on the stock spring were looking rather tired after many years of service, so I bought a new aftermarket spring from Hogparts in Cannock, UK.
I installed the new spring by first placing pennies between the coils to extend it's length, when it was installed, I pulled out the pennies one at a time and the spring contracted to it's normal length, job done.
Got the new one & its basically the same as the previous new one but w/ a 2,5in extension on the foot. Old new spring fit a little tighter. Gonna order a 3.4in spring to replace the 3.7in so it snugs up and retracts more aggressively.
