Guys have been racing every kind of motor vehicle since their invention….why not Sportsters too. Just because there are nitro funny bikes or Moto GP bikes doesn’t diminish the challenge and fun with racing bikes less sophisticated and older.
To the OP, more power is a good thing with these 883s and the 1275 is a great option. Pick your goal HP and get the kit that meets those goals. Build it yourself and learn in the process.

LoL ... This little 883 Sporster sprinted the 1/4 mile stuck in fourth gear from the start in only 19.9 seconds @81.74 mph
