I have a 2001sportster 883 with around 12k miles on it. It runs fine at idle and starts right up but after riding for about 10-15 minutes it starts to misfire and stall out. Ive already put a new battery, new plugs (gapped to specs), new plug wires, a new stator and I cleaned the carb. The misfire and stalling only seems to occur after it gets warmed up. Any tips are appreciated!
The ignition module in your bike is know for heat related failure. Harley does not offer a replacement, so you need to go aftermarket. I think Ultima or Dyna are good choices. 1998-2003 bikes are affected.
Great. I found a video on doing it, seems simple enough. Once I get the part in I will update if it has fixed my problem or not. Thanks again for the speedy replies and ideas. I hope this solves everything because Im dying to ride the weather has been so nice
Did the module with a dynatek 2000i (made sure it was timed properly and set on the right curve) and decided to do the ignition coil as well to cover all my bases and for peace of mind to know the whole ignition system is brand new. Still having that stalling/misfire issue
A failing crank position sensor can cause several problems, including misfires and stalling. Electrical devices can act up as they heat up, expansion causing cracks to widen, that sort of thing. It's something to check out. Best of luck with it.

There is no crank position sensor on an 01. There is a speedometer sensor in that same spot I think though which looks the same. The pre-04 bikes use a timing cup behind the ingnition module to determine the crank position for timing.

Sounds electrical. I had the exact same symptoms with my 03 when the ignition module went out but you've replaced that. Did you replace the rotor cup as well? I hear these can go bad as well. I replaced mine with the Hammer version.
I also had similar issues when my battery cable was broken under the sheath. My thought is your issue is still electrical but that is just my gut feeling based on the symptoms, the misfire being the one that stands out.
