would the symtoms of a loose primary chain like jerky feeling , rattling become worse when riding two up.when i ride solo jerky feeling no rattling when i ride 2 up rattling in higher gears never first or second gears and bad jerky feeling.I told the service guy at my 1000 mile checkup about it he said it could not be primary chain because the 07 sportsters have automatic chain tension(is this true).
I don't know if the 07's have an automatic tensioner. From what you describe my first suspicion would be that you're lugging the engine in the higher gears which would be made worse riding 2up with the added weight. Try downshifting 1 gear to keep the revs up.
I hadn't heard anything about the '07 Sportsters having an automatic primary chain adjustment.
I would assume that you received an Owners Manual with the bike.
If so check the 'Maintenance Section' in your Owners Manual and see if part of the 5,000 mile schedule is to adjust the primary chain. If so that would mean the primary chain still needs to be checked and adjusted, just like all prior year models.
If the '07 still needs to have the primary checked and adjusted, and your 'service guy' isn't aware of that fact, I might be uncomfortable with him doing any work on the bike.
it does have check primary chain in service manual.i dont think im lugging it since this condition just started and ive put 3000 miles on it with no issues most of the miles have been 2 up.almost sure its a primary chain issue.is it possible.
The primary chain is easy to adjust if the 07's don't have an auto adjuster. Get the HD shop manual for your bike, it's worth it's weight in gold. ( or gass ) This doesn't sound like a loose primary, but, it don't hurt to check.
what does it sound like to you its driving me crazy i dont think im lugging it ive rode for years first sporty but like i said it just started this sh&t.Thanx for any help.
Pull your plugs and make sure they look good, also check the air filter and if your still carbed your needle and seats for cleanleness. In my experince a loose chain will cause a jerk only when power is first aplied and possibly when shifting. It could be fouled plugs causing lack of power and that could in turn cause some pinging due to heat build up...
