Default Clutch question

Have a stage 1 883 setup with 8k. Little motor is running good enough after tuning to flare the clutch on power shifts.

My question is about adding additional disc and plates (stock parts) to eliminate the rivet plate. I have a slightly used 1200 clutch and was thinking on buying the additional HD frictions and steels. The plan is to run the 1200 spring, 9 frictions and 8 steels.

Sound kosher?

That will work fine but you may get a little chirp at takeoff. Some get it with the extra disk and some don't. I did the extra plate setup using stock disks and plates and it worked fine but it did give me a little squeel when I took off from a light.

Just randomly picking a year the clutch plates are the same for 883 and 1200 bikes. From the manual you can check the stack height to see how much the plates have worn. If still well within spec you could simply take the plates from one to replace the spring plate.

I replaced the spring plate but then used the parts from the XR1200 to replace the first fibre plate.

I tried the 2 steel 1 friction replacement first but got more than a chirp when taking off in first gear, it was a squeal that sounded like a slipping fan belt...but as was said that doesn't happen in all cases.
I then used the judder sping setup from a XR1200/Buell XB and zero squeal and it has worked well for 5 years now. If you go that route you also need 2 extra steel plates.

I didn't even try without, when I replaced the spring plate in went the XR1200 bits as well as a *** 7200 bearing.

So far as I know I was the first to do the XR1200 judder spring setup, when I got the loud squeal I did some research, saw that Barnett used to supply a judder spring with their plate kits and that the XR1200 used one.
In the meantime Alto has introduced a spring plate with SS rather than brass rivets but I don't know if is reliable or not.
Anyway here are the parts that are required to retrofit the judder sping...

I am sure we have all thanked you somewhere on the internet. I got the details from xlforum.net.

It works very well. I have done a 2008 and my 2017 both 1200s.

That's a very helpful pic thank you. The friction and the 2 steel plates are easy to figure out, but do you have the instructions where to use the other 2 metal rings?

(order of fitting)
37895-02 SEAT, DAMPER SPRING
37894-02 SPRING, CLUTCH
37897-02 FRICTION PLATE, NARROW

It is not just 2 metal rings it is also a half width friction plate so 3 parts to the install.

OC is using the Alto spring plate, no reported issues.
