Default 00’ Carb Dynojet Question

I’ve been trying to tune my 2000 883 carb, dealing with some backfiring in low rpms, and found a Dynojet kit for a 2000-2006 Twin Cam 88 locally for cheap. Would I be able to use this kit, or should I just buy the kit specific for my bike?

Don`t modify a CV carb with a DynoJet kit, they are at best no improvement over the stock configuration carb.

CV performance will have whatever you need for a CV carb.

Clean and rebuild it, replace the fuel and vacuum hoses, replace the intake seals between the manifold and cylinder head, and the seal between the carb and the manifold.

First rule of dynojet - don't get a dynojet kit. Second rule - see rule 1.

If you want to get a neato needle for the 883, N65C is a good 'un.

That said - your problem is something that needs to be fixed before jetting. Could be a vac leak. Could be a dirty jet. Have you cleaned the carb thoroughly? That shellac can look like it's part of the bowl and then a little chips off at a time and gunks up the jets.

1) Clean carb so you can eat off it
2) Use carb cleaner spraying to diagnose intake leaking
3) Set jets to stock then modify. Don't take some jury rigged hell and try to tune from there. What pipes/intake?
4) Make one change at a time only.

The only thing I do that is dynojet like is put a shim under the needle - #4 wash, I believe? About $10 needle included. The dynojet kit is a waste and generally solves a given problem in the wrong way.

I forgot to mention I picked up an aftermarket air cleaner as well. I had issues with backfiring before that, but I also noticed my tank and petcock were covered in old tank sealant. I’ve got a new tank and a new petcock coming in, so hopefully that helps with it running lean.
I wasn’t sure what to get for the carb, I just figured it would need larger jets.

Get a filter between the tank and carb if you don't have one already

Filter between the tank and carb will cause additional problems.

There should be a filter screen on the petcock if it is OEM and that will do just fine to keep crud out of the carb.

Unless there is some physical damage to your carb, the stock parts are fine. A 45 pilot and 170 mainjet should put you in the ballpark. Make sure you take out the idle mix screw assembly so you can flush out the idle circuit through the pilot jet hole. If you make sure it's all clean, you should have no problems. Good luck!
