I don't have a windshield on my bike and used to wear a HJC Modular that I purchased for about $200. I wore the thing for 2 years and was really hurting after high speed rides on the highway. I had to really fight the wind and buffeting.
Yesterday, I bought a HD Modular stealth helmet which is made by KBC and it cuts through the wind (at maybe 80%) better than my HJC. I'm really freaked out that two helmets offer that much difference in wind resistance.
I guess I won't need that winshield or chiropractor for my neck...lol
I have a HJC full face never wore it that much on the highway so I can't comment on the buffeting, the windshield is great, not as much presure on your chest when on the highway.
I did 150 miles Saturday morning w/o the windshield, using my HJC full face. Head buffeting wasn't too bad, but the wind-pushing-on-the-chest business wore me out pretty good.
Even though all the wind is exciting to me on the new ride, I've ordered my windshield. It arrives tomorrow with a Sundowner seat and a luggage rack!!! I'm like a kid on Christmas Eve.
My helmet - a Vega full-face - is really loud at highway speeds. I'm considering earplugs or a quieter helmet.
I have a Nolan N102 modular which is fairly quiet as compared to my Fulmer modular. If you want to keep your hearing buy a set of ear plugs, makes long rides enjoyable and no headaches and the end of the ride
Haven't tried the full face helmet, but with my windshield off on some of our hot days here the last couple weeks ad my HD 1/2 helmet w/ visor, just at 60-65 i thought someone was behind me trying to rip the ***helmet off my head. If I am highway/freeway riding I really wimp out and put on the windshield
One of the best helmets out there. No noise at all and it slices through the air. I do wear a half helmet for short trips but for long trips you can't beat a full face helmet for comfort.
I've got an open face with visor and the wind really tries to rip it off somwhere between 50-60mph. I would like a full face for when I eventually try longer trips, but have tried on a number and been unable to find anything which I could comfortably wear with my prescription spectacles. Theyre varifocal and many of the full face helmets I triedtwisted them so I couldnt see through the correct part of the lense.
