My battery side cover seemed to want to keep comming loose(top would fall out) Yesterday I hit the highway to go see a buddy about 110 mile one way. When I got home the side cover was gone!
Would this or should this be replaced by the warranty?
Anybody else having trouble keeping there cover in place?
Common problem, you should find your answers here, with the quick fix method about drilling and using zip ties. https://www.hdforums.com/m_1136332/tm.htm, good luck..

I had lost one of the plastic tabs that hold the cover in place, so the cover would flop down. For now, I just use a breadbag tie to hold it in place. Certainly not my final choice for use on my Harley, but it works for now. I would thinkyour lostcover would be replaced under the warranty.
Good Luck with the Dealer. When I lost mine, they wouldn't replace it. It's another one of those known defects that the MoCo won't admit exists. I have heard of a few guys that got theirs replaced by the dealer, but I had to get my replacement on ebay.
After SEVERAL phone calls, and complaints filed with government consumer protection agencies, the stealer did finally give me a store credit for the price I paid on ebay.
Just got back from the dealer. Had to go threw the deal with 4 different people, but in the end a new side cover is ordered at no expence to me. As it should be.
Thanks again for all the advise!
I still plan to contact H-D customer service to make sure they get one more complaint on the subject.
lost the front clip on mine and now it falls open every now and then. Useually on a bumpy back road.gonna have to go to the dealer a find me another one.gonna do the "bag tie" for now.
Must be frustrating. I guess I am just lucky this has never happened to me.
Maybe HD should have a rider clinic where people can practice properly attaching the parts to their bikes. That way, those who had covers that fell off due to user error can figure out what they did wrong and the "known defects that the MoCo won't admit exists" can be brought to light and addressed in a public forum where there is no chance to deny anything.

Hmmm, Funny. The dealer was the last place to have the cover off. Go figure! They also seemed pretty willing to admit at thedealership that a problem exsists ,That would be why I'm getting a replacement free of charge
