I have a 2005 XL1200R and other than Cycle Shack Tapered slip-ons, it is stock at the moment. In the 50-60 mph range I average 56 mpg. Speeds of 65-70 mph eat into that by about 10 mpg.

ok:shift4low is traveling along @ 50-60 mph on his harley. His harley gets exactly 56 mpg at that speed (for math problem). If sift4low starts out with a full tank and goes at a constant speed till empty, how far should he go (show your work for full credit)
56mpg *4.5gal = 252 miles - [8D] - jest kiddin round bud
I have a 3.3 gallon tank so your math is way wrong but thanks for the smart *** remarks.
At highway speeds I'll get 50-52 mpg. I road along with a friend who was breaking in her 05 Sportster 883 and got 63 mpg at or below 50 mph. If I go 80 mph I'll drop to 48 mpg. Tim
Usable before reserve is 3.3 regardless of year model. 150-170 is good target to start thinking about a pit stop. i usually start to look for a good place or head for that place at 150, and I get about what you do on my'05 883C

thought you had the 05 1200c - it's tank is 4.5 - glad you like the coments
My last long hual was only about 400 miles long on my 883c. I was loaded with only myself and my tbags of the usual clothes ext. I got almost 60 mpg on the interstate. I usually fill up the tank between the 170 mile to 180 mile range so to have a little reserve before I actually hit reserve. My bike has the usual upgrades: screaming eagle slip ons and the carb and aircleaner upgrades to make it run right.
