I bet if you asked one of techs or asked to see a factory service manual..or even bought one(gasp)...haha..It'd say right in there exactly how it works....
As for the puter stuff being "crap"
Me I like things that automatically compensate for altitude and cold mornings...especially if they make it a little more fuel efficient and responsive...

More than likely itisthe same type sensor used by the German auto manufactures,when wet it reacts to the fueland breaks the ground between the fuel level light and chassis ground. After thefuel level is low enoughfor the sensor to remain completely dry (togive a more accurate reading)it completes the contact to ground and illuminates the fuel light. I wish I knew the science behind it. Its a fantastic set-upfor bikes because the leaning a bikes does would not keep thesensor wet enough for a long enough period of time to give a falselow fuel light illumination, also this type sensor is seperate from a fuel levelsensor, providing a secondarysystem if the primary fuel level sensor fails.
