I've been able to get several off by just twisting them back and forth. At first it feels like they won't budge, but keep at it and they will eventually break loose. If that doesn't work, try one or all of the following. Slip something like a thin screw driver between the grip and handlebar, blow compressed air between grip and bar, spray wd 40 between grip and bar.
I was looking at the new jp cycles cataloue and was thinking the same thing ...how do the new one attach.? do you have to connect any wires for the throttle
For the right grip, once you get the controls off the grip kinda just falls off be careful though cause they're two little brass rings that the throttle and idle wires go into. I've also heard there can be problems with smashing the turn signals if you're not careful. As all diy projects go, if you take it slow and be careful you should be okay
I just changed mine a couple days ago, (Kuryakyn Iso-grips) Thanks Santa! They came with good instructions, including a warning about the throttle cable ferrules (SP?) not being connected. Good info as my dumb azz woulda' lost at least one! LOL.
Left side is piece of cake. You may or may not have to slice it, but if you wanna get it off in one piece, be sure you loosen the switch control as there is a ridge in the grip that fits in there. Maybe it will twist off. What you gonna do with an old pair of grips anyway?
You have to glue the new grip on and you will want to cover anything below the work area or you might make a mess of things. (one less decent pair of Levis here [:-]) At least it wasn't on the paint. Hope this helps
I bought the narrow ring grips from HD. The instructions called for cutting the left, which I did. The right side was actually easier than the left for me. Whole thing took about 30 minutes. Good luck...
to remove the left grip just pry the lip a little and use a shot of carb cleaner/w the red straw work back and forth she'll slide right off, clean off well,to use over put some contact on it and slide it back on.
