i have an 05 road king with a little over 35,000 miles on it. question#1. i have noticed that my hand grips seem to be wearing or eroding away where i hold on to them. i thought grips would last a lot longer than that. i do have sweaty hands, i can wear rubber gloves for 30 minutes and nearly pour sweat out of them and that may be a factor. i know i will have to replace them at some point, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
question #2 the other day i noticced the left grip slipping and turning on the handle bar. i don't beleave it can come off as it seems to have a ridge that is locked under the switch bracket, but it is still unnerving to have the grip turn. can anyone suggesr an adhesive to lock this grip in place?
Are you still using the stock grips? They don't last very long.
I just got a set of Rolland Sands grips, they are smaller , I thought it would help with my thumb on the throttle hand getting numb, it has helped so far.
As for grip glue, hair spray works pretty well if you let it dry over night.
spray the grip inside, and then a little on the bar after cleaning with a solvent.
If you re-glue that grip, make sure you clean the old glue off the bar and as much out of the grip as possible before adding new glue. I use the ISO grips and am very happy with them as they cut out some of the bar vibration.
Instead of using glue on the left grip, I wrapped electrical tape around the handlebar. This holds the grip on well enough for me without needing to mess with the glue
I have gone through two pairs of Kury Iso grips in 4 years, the throttle grip has broken both times nearly leaving me stranded. They also would turn my hands black which always ended up on my face after wiping off bug guts.
Went with Avons this time, the clutch side had a positive locking bead of material that keeps it from twisting. Not as soft as the Iso, but same basic style.
I've had good luck out of Kury ISO's. I did have the throttle side let go back in 2009 or 10.
I use Fox Grip Glue, and even used that when the throttle side came loose.
I absolutely hate the stock grips, but my '14 has heated grips... so I'm in a quandry. The left grip, CVO Slipstream style is over $300 by itself. I really don't want to go with 'aftermarket' HD heated grips.
