Default Help Fitting Mini Apes

A friend of mine has a Nighster and recently purchased some Mini Apes. After looking at it the local indy dealer has said it wants a huge amount to fit them (around the equivalent of $1200).

Has anyone fit them themselves and can give an indication of how easy or otherwise it is to do yourself. He isnt really much of a wrench and would be working on his own, we are at opposite ends of the country.

If anyone can give links to usefull how to do this articles, especially a step by step one this would be most usefull.

Also any pitfalls to look out for would be grately appreciated.

We are both inEngland btw, so recomendingdealers in the USA who could do it cheap wouldnt help.

Many thanks as always for your help with this.

i think the work part would take up most of the expense, as for the the longer cables and wires i think they arent cheap either, i always try do to the most by myself. Fitting the wires thorugh the bars could be annoying, does the handle bar comes with holes for the wires?

Did mine last year, even changed out risers, soldered in wire ext. for switches plus ran wires internal, replaced brake line and clutch cable with braided stainlessalong with mounting the speedo on the top tree using anXL/Dyna bracket. Did it all in a weekend and cost me me less than $350 for all of the parts. Service manual helpsfor little things like adjustments, torque settings and those little gotchas. It's not rocket science, just time consumming. And yes dealers over herecharge $900 on up for doing it toosince they get full retail for parts and then some and then try to charge 8+ hrs. labor at $65 or more an hour.
I've always believed i doing my own service work but then again I have tools and no fear of f'n anything up. Worst case is ya get stuck on something and have to ask for help.
