I went to the local HD shop to get a dyno tune, and some jack hole melted their pants on my pipes......YES MY NEW TROUBLE MAKERS!!!!!! they told me to bring it in, and they can clean it up, so until i see what they do there, I am not going to bitch too loud. I will let them take a crack at finxing their mistake. It just irks me that it could happen in the first place. i will report back with what they say.
You should really calm down...Real easy to clean. I have been using bug and tar remover for years on my pipes whenever my rider hits my pipes. The trick is to apply it when the pipe is hot, wipes right off. It will happen again.....
It's no big deal man, just calm down. Oven cleaner and super fine (crumbles in your hands) steel wool will get anything off those puppies. Just be sure to stay away from any painted surfaces (also be sure to spray the oven cleaner on the steel wool first, not the pipes). My wife has a habit of leaving boot marks on mine and this always takes care of it. I learned the trick right here on our blessed forum.
When the little wifey would burn her soles on my pipes I always used
IRON CLEAN from wally world ,two little tubes for less than 5 bucks
get your pipes hot, squeeze the stuff on a fiber cloth and wipe gently
the longer you let the melted stuff stay on your pipes the harder it is to get off
I use to clean mine as soon as I shut the bike down if I the little wifey was careless
