Hi everyone. New to the board and Harley. Just got a 2008 nightster. So far I love it. I comute from Rancho Cucamonga, Ca to irvine, Ca 5 days a week. 105 miles round trip. Got about 2000 miles in already! I don't like the look of the headlight visor though. Is there a way to remove it cleanly? Doesn't look like you can. Seems to riveted or ewlded on as well as bolted. Anybody done this or is a new light the only way? Thanks.
Yeah I got to lookin one day at it. My buddie's 1200 custom was parked beside mine and I had an allen wrench in my hand with "nightster headlight" written all over it. When I got the bolts loose I quickly discovered that if you loosen the bolts for the visor, the entire headlight falls down. It's rivited onto that sucker real good. The 1200C's headlight is on a mount that is bolted to the forks pretty much, but the Nightster's is riveted onto that stupid-*** visor. I like the way the 1200C's headlight is mounted, but I guess the plastic surgeons in charge of the Nightster had something else in mind. I don't mind it too much, but it would be nice to be able to just take the visor off at will. I'm sure there are people that have modded their nightster headlights tho...
Tap your lower tree and use a custom mounting block with an aftermarket headlight. All you need is a drill or drill press, common sense, and a new headlight
yeah that's what I was sayin, the headlight is literally mounted to that visor. Like 6o66er said, drill that **** and there ya go. If you do it how the 1200C's are done, you won't even be able to tell that you did it yourself...or hell, do it how ever you want, it's your bike. No one can pass judgement but you...the others can try, but **** em.
I have a new take off xl1200 custom headlight but I think my nephew will want it....he returns soon...if he don't want it, it's free to you if you pay postage.
Here is the light I swapped in place of the stock light...it's killer and would look right on a Nightster but it mounts on lower tree like stock custom light:
