i have an 02 sportster 1200c. After putting cycle shack slip ons on a small amount of oil now drips out of the bottom of the air filter and is now hitting my bags when i am riding. I was told by my local bike shop that because i am just putting slip ons on the bike that i do not need my carb jetted or anything else. So i was just wondering if anyone knew what is going on and why that oil is dripping?? And what i can do or what there is to do to fix this?? thanks
Putting slip ons will have nothing to do with your air cleaner blowing oil. THat is the same blow-by symptom that plauges 97% of all Evo Sportsters. http://www.mklsportster.com/xloilblowbyarticle.htmis a good page explaining what it is and at least one way how to fix it.
Before you do anything else, check the oil level. It should not be above the one-half mark between the lines when measured hot. This is a common problem with Sportsters.
If your oil level is correct, the only solutions are either a breather kit...which you'll need to get an aftermarket air cleaner for, or running 1/2 a quart low in your oil tank. Either way, it's STILL gonna happen to a degree, just by design.
I had one of these...When I was installing the breather bolts, the head twisted right off the ****er.
Go with a Ness Big Sucker or something that's built a little better. I swear them bolts were ****ing pot metal!!! I smashed the other one with a single blow from a hammer...cuz I was pissed at it. I finally decided I'm either doing the work myself or paying a decent amount for something that's proven to work when it comes to engine parts.
Cheap engine parts = bad news in most cases. Not to say they never work out, but I have seen some crap parts that went to hell within a week.

The design of that bypass even looks questionable to me. It looks like oil would pool and then fill the U shaped hose between the breather bolts. Seems to me the hose should be inverted, above the carb throat.
Hey CHARLEY my filter setup has been on for 5 years and it works perfect. I used to have a set up like your and it worksuntill the little filter gets fullof oilthen it drips all over your engine.
P.S. the loop doesn't hurt a thing the pressure from the crankcasekeeps it blown out.
