Default RE: Parking Etiquette?

I hate it when somebodydecides to squeeze their bike in beside mine. More than once, I have found somebody's shoe scuff on my bags. In addition, it seems like the squeezer always picks the high side of my bike. With beach bars, it usually leaves with with no room to stand my bike upright. Personally, I don't want to share a space. If I park close to the line, I'm subject to have some idiot swing his door into the side of my bike.

i kinda know how u feel. we have a "motorcycle only" area right in front of my door at work. there arent more than 3 or 4 riders parked there at the same time, but room for probably 10 or more bikes. this idiot on a road king, no matter what, will pull up and squeeze in between 2 bikes. there has been more than one instance that i could barely stand my bike up.[:@] i cant say i havent been tempted to kick that f^ing thing over!!! he has to get as close to the door as possible, cant walk the exta 5 feet. damn idiot, i think ill pour some oil under his bike tomorrow, hes not too mechanically inclined at all so it should be a good show[sm=badbadbad.gif]

any way i would have to say rule #1 is always park on the LEFT side of another persons bike. u need more room to tip it up than to actually get on.

Or better yet....Stand by the window and watch and when he parks close again go outside and introduce yourself and discuss the parking situtaion rationally. Using brains just might solve the situation, where using brawn probably would make it worse.

Yes, reacting politely and rationally is the best idea. Why not go out and introduce yourself and express your issue? (You might make a new friend.) I often park next to another bike in an auto parking place; I feel a sense of brotherhood when others do the same when I get there first -- we are different in the same way -- all bike riders! On the weekend at different events, I have had as many as 4 bikes park in the same place.

Oh, by the way, I often assume that when other people (auto drivers, other bikers) do something that irritates me that they did it TO ME ON PURPOSE; but most people are actually clueless that they are aggravating you and would stop what they were doing if they knew it bothered you. It is not personal. If you take the personal element out of it, the behavior won't seem so irritating -- at least that is how it affects me.

Personally, I think there is safety in numbers. I park with other bikes because (rightfully or wrongfully) I think our bikes are less likely to be messed with. If it is two-wheeled, it is fine with me. I own a Harley and a Honda; I don't care what brand you ride. Be safe, McCleod.

What if the places were reversed? What would you like then? He shares the same roads and has to watch out for the same cages that you do. I understand fully what you are talking about. Leave a note on his scoot, let him know it ain't "cool" to crowd other riders. Leave him some space at the back of the parking space, if after that he wants to be a butthead, try putting a few drops of oil under his scoot, let him know you think he has a leak. He'll go nuts finding it.

You can easily fit four bikes into a standard size parking space. Park on one side or the other, and at the front or back. Leaves plenty of room for him to park on the other end of the space, away from your bike.

Christ, man, it's someone who works at the same place. Get a little less territorial. Park on the side and let him have some room. There's far more important stuff in life than who gets what parking space (if there isn't, you've got one hell of a good life).
