Hey everyone. I am a dyna guy however this last weekend a friend of mine (we are on the same fire department) bought a brand new nightster. He doesnt have his license yet as he is taking the msf course this week and next. So I rode it home for him.
It is a awesome bike. Very quick nimble stock and not broke in even. Rode great. He has rode it around a few times in a neighborhood.
Tonight he called me and asked if I have ever had an issue with the bike stalling or having the electrical cut in and out. I never have thank goodness. He said he went to make a stop at a stop sign and the bike just dies. He started it back up and it was fine, he turned the corner and then the speedo and the lights kept flickering on and off.
I told him to check the battery connections. He checked the positive side but couldn't get to the negative as of yet due to time.
Does anyone have any other ideas on what may be the issue? He is going to call the dealer in the morning anyway because it has like 50 miles on it and we all know this shouldn't be happening.
Thanks for the help on his and my behalf.
I am going to try to get him to become a member here.
It seems as if this issue is reaching pandemic proportions with the Spotsters! I had a similar problem, and have read of many others who had it (have it) also.
As it turns out, after being stranded twice and towed once,my problem was caused by a loose battery cable connection on the negative poleat the battery. I checked and tightened up all four connections, and knock wood, it seems to be OK now.
Fortunately, I did not have to diagnose further than the loose connection at the battery terminal - yet. I have read where others have located their problem at the coil and replaced it with satisfactory results.
Thanks guys. I think thats it as well. I believe he is going to have the dealer pick it up and take a look at it as well. I wonder why they have it so crammed in there anyway.
Mine happened on a Dyna but my negative battery cable has become loose 2 times now. Loc Tite will be bought this weekend and hopefully i won't have this problem again.
