I heard through the HDgrapevine last night that HD is going to discontinue prodution of the 883 in the US market for 2009, funny because it(883L and 883C)are in the 09 paint chip book we just recieved.....
I would doubt it, because they need an entry level bike, unless someone figured that a cut price on the 1200 would be offset by a combination of higher sales or reduced manufacturing costs (fewer part numbers - but not THAT many fewer!) I'll let the experts weigh in on this.
with gas hitting 5bucks a gallon it seems kiinda foolish to stop makeing the most fuel efficent bike in your lineup.
Don t start the flamein, I ride a 40MPG ultra but a 55mpg sporty has been catchin my eye more and more.
For many that extra few miles may not mean much but few of the nay sayers ride more than 5 or 10K a year. bump that figure up to 20K or30K and you start seein the extra bucks addin up. And the 883 is a tough as nails powerplant that will cruse nearly forever. for solo ridein arround this country the 883Sporty can be a real deal. I've had 80K on one so I got a decent ideal of life aboard the 883s.
And I think this big bucks gas is goin to make the lil Sporty a ridein star again espically for those who love ridein long miles and ridein Harleys.
The key to the 883s is to just ride the dam things, don't get in a hurry just ride em!!
