Default Replacement Choke ****

I am planning something maybe unusual, but I want to try and replace the black plastic choke **** with something like a kitchen cabinet chrome ****. Is this possible to do and if so how do I get the black plastic **** off with out destryong the whole choke mechanism. Ive tryed to pull it off, nope that didnt work, tried twisting it off nope that didnt work either, any other suggestions

The choke **** is made onto the shaft so spitting it and cutting it off is the only way. Once off youcan take your kitchen **** and drill/tap the side fo a set screw and that will hold it just fine. A better solution is buying a smaller control **** like is used on vintage push/pull auto contols which is smaller/lighter and has a set screw. You can find find them in auto parts stores or through JC Whitney.

I took the plastic off with dykes. Replaced with a custom **** w/ set screw, but I have a question. My new **** sticks out about 1/2 inchs at what appears to be a natural resting spot. I can push it in farther, but it wants to come back out. I figure the old **** stopped shorter than my custom one, ...or, am I supposed to get that cable to go in and stay in as far in as possible? Either way doesn't seem to affect the performance or idle rpm. Any thoughts?

ORIGINAL: capttawes
tap the side for a set screw
There is a notch in the shaft that the set screw will set into.

A friend of mine works at a machine shop. We measured up the original **** and shaft, turned a brass **** & drew it up in cad for later production.

I will get the distance measurement (not kept at work), from the notch to the end of the original **** for those who don't know where the original **** stoped.

The setscrew is .470" from the end of the **** on the **** I made. This puts the setscrew in the center in the notch in the shaft.

The distance from the edge of the notch in the shaft to the end of the plastic **** is ~.3505 as measured with a vernier caliper.
