Default question re: drag bars

Hey there,

I just put some new drag bars on my 05 sporty 1200C... I used the stock risers and had the turn signals moved down to the forks, but it seems like the bar is bit too low. Obviously not as comfortable ride and I lose the use of my rearview mirrors.
Anyone have any suggestions on this... How much work is it (and cost) to intstall higher risers (is that even the option).

Thanks for the help.

Default RE: question re: drag bars

I think it ends up being a costly proposition. I looked at replacing the riser myself.

- The new riser will obviously throw you back a few bucks.
- The stock riser has wiring harnesses and such hidden inside it. Going with an open design will leave an ugly mess of wiring unless you do something costmetic there. Whatever you do will undoubetly cost a few dollars.
- The speedo housing is part of the riser assembly. Therefore changing risers means changing the housing. More money.
- You might end up having to extend some or all of the control wiring if you change the riser. Then again, with the drag bars it might be a wash. But if you do, there's a few bucks added.

Maybe come at it from the other way. What kind of a seat are you riding? Maybe you could put a Reach seat or similar on that will bring you a little forward. You'll still have your drag bars that way. And a new seat might be less $$$ than a riser upgrade.

There's my 2 cents.

thanks for the input... just what i was afraid of.

I think maybe getting some new bars with a bit more "bend" might also help...

I had the Same problem & changed the mirrors to a tear drop shapped that extends a little past the ends of my grips. Looks great & solved the problem. Will be posting pics when I finish the latest round of mods.

Hey

The drags bar I put on where shorter than your 33's, only 22's if i recall correctly. Yes, i had to move the turn signals because they would hit the tank. harley Parts makes a custom mounting bracket for the forks. they look pretty good... I'll post some pics shortly. I know people have changed mirrors to get their rearview back... you can also get some taller mirrors as well as some that spilt out a bit wider than your bars.

thanks for opinions folks... I'd love to se some pics of what people have done with drag bars...

I used the stock risers on mine, 28in wide bar. was looking for some 6 inchers but couldnt find any with some pull back (like the deuce's). moved the turn signals to the forks, and had to re-route the clutch cable through the trees as well. the brake line kinda cramped on me, but shouldnt be a problem. Im looking for a seat next, ive got long arms and legs and would like to scoot a little lower and farther back so i can stretch out a little more. pics are a little dark, but you get the idear...

heres some 6in risers from ebay, should be able to use the stock speedo and mounting bracket, but as some one else noted, youll have a mess of wires showing.

click me!

you might want to look into getting some longer bars also, when i installed mine i couldnt really tell the difference from stock, plus i could still use my mirrors.

Hay Peterhead thanks bro ..ya my bars and 4.5 risers are on there way . i was also looking at a nother fourm where some one came up with a good idea for the speedo bracket . u get 2 8 mm deep sockets and 3 in hecks bolts and take the bolts out of the headlight visor and add the sockets to the bolts and put the speedo back on . the bars i got have a 2 in set back so my speedo and tach would be sitting strait up .well i ll see about the blinkers on the bars ..if there to close ill have to run to the local harley store and get them...i really like the look of them on the forks.and them some nice pics of your bike..i like the look of sportys with drag bars on them
