Does anyone have the Pure Power reusable oil filter? I read in a mag last year that they dynoed a stock Road Glide, then changed the filter to the reusable one, and changed the oil to Pure Power oil and it got 10 more horsepower. I bought one and it's on the way, but can anyone share their experience with theirs? Thanx
you may have saw the charts, but thats just advertising to get you to use the product.
its very hard to beleive an oil change and a filter will give you 10HP... \\; horsepower is made by increasing air and fuel flow and compression. thats all mechanicle stuff.
changing the oil that lubes the mechanical stuff wont free up power.
If you think an oil filter is going to give you a measureable HP gain, you are really going to be interested in the bridge I have for sale. It has your name written all over it. \\;
Yeah I got your bridge swingin! \\; I guess it doesn't matter that a number of reputable rags have had articles ranting and raving, oh and I guess the dyno was setup to make it look like it had an increase huh? If any of you even had a clue as to where performance comes from besides more flow and compression, but obviously that's not the case. Next I s'pose I'll be hearin how the clutch and tranny don't do anything either. Maybe you clowns haven't heard yet, but friction is horsepowers worst enemy, so if there is more lube a flowin, then there's less friction, which in turn will free up power. Hmmmm hooda thunkit?
I agree that you can gain HP from a good oil, but everything I have seen has been negligable. You still have an increase in power, but, I really do not think that is why I would do it. The biggest benifit I believe to your set up will be the fact that you are reducing friction along with lowering the engine temp along with the filter possible being better will prolonging the life of you bike. This is the main reason I will be swapping to eitehr Amsoil or Mobil One at my 1000 mile service. How much did you pay for the reusable filter if you don't mind me asking and what do the replacement inserts cost? I was looking at the Scotts for my 04 CBR 600 RR, but it was extremely expensive. Let us know how the filter and oil work for you when you get them isntalled.
Looks like a nice filter. $$$ but nice. One thing to remember is that dyno results can show lots of difference based on what type of report is printed out. On the PDF you linked the first chart looks like a report of a run through all gears and the second looks like the standard 4th gear run. Notice the choppy curves in the first and the more familiar linear HP and torque curves on the second graph. Also the RPM range is different on the two charts. Just sayin...
The only real way to tell if it helps is to dyno it, change the oil and then dyno it again on the same dyno in the same weather conditions on the same day with nothing being changed. \\; I have seen one person do two different dyno's on two different times of the year with no change to their car post two completely different set of numbers.
