Any suggestions on how to deal with dealerships? \\; Want an '08 Sportster, need forward controls due to height and weight. \\; What (in your humble opinions) is a good offer? \\; Buying first bike and very limited salesman experience. \\; I don't want to make a bad move. \\; Thanks for your input !!!
if you want an 08 you should be able to get it under msrp seeing that 09s are out. If you really try, a lot under msrp! at least try to have them throw in the forwards for free and waive the labor. Also I know one thing that can be tossed when buying a left over is the freight and set up fees. good luck and hope to see you soon with a new ride!
Thanks for the reply !!! \\; Yeah, forwards should be free. \\; Most of the dealers I talk to aren't even discussing freight and prep, it's being tossed out. I have a large down payment too. \\; I just don't know if I would be hornswaggled or not. \\; Is $500 under MSRP too much to ask for? \\;
I got my SG for 500 over msrp for a basic SG 3 weeks ago and that was a sick price around here. All other dealers were dropping 500 off their price and thats it. In other words every dealer I went to in a 3 hour drive radius wanted 21k to 22k for the same bike with the same options.....ABS and wire wheels. I got mine for 19300. I think thats a good price seeing that I looked for about a month and a half yet people in texas are telling me that a basic SG which is 18995 is selling 1500 bucks under msrp. I guess it depends on where you live and whats available.
AS for 500 under id say not bad but maybe 500 under msrp with forwards and no fees and see where that takes you. The worst that happens is a big NO. Big deal go somewhere else and try again.
Yeah, that's what i was thinking \\; They want to move those '08's \\; Hopefully in a few weeks I'll \\; have my scoot \\; I got money burning in my wallet, ya'know?
The 1200 Custom comes standard with forward controls. If your dealer still has one in stock, they should knock some off. I have heard of some dealers going 1k under msrp. But not all will do that.
They don't care about a large down payment. Their preference would be minimal down and financed through HD. They actually have excellent interest rates if you're tier 1. \\;\\\\\\;Fill out a finance application. Get approved. Then tell them you want this and that but you need this and that at a certain price that takes into account your household budget and your love for The Motor Company. Put the minimal down on the terms you want ie. length of loan and interest rate. You want them to think you're poor but you gotta have this and \\;\\\\\\;that to seal the deal on the bike. \\;\\\\\\;Then, take that wad of cash and put it towards \\;\\\\\\;the principle on the loan with your first payment. Or, spend it on mods.
Good luck
EDIT Don't hem and haw too much. The next person will buy it without forward controls. Also, the squeeky wheel does't always get the grease. Sometimes the squeeky wheel gets thrown out.
I recommend finding a used one that is already broke in and out of factory warranty...save your self a few bucks and NEVER have to deal with the dealerships!!!! Find a good indy and be happy!!!!
go to as many dealerships as possible, I have an advantage were I live with in a 2 hr driving radious there are at least 10 dealerships....shoot there are 4 with in 20 min of my house, but shop around and they should be willing to deal on an 08, YOY sales are down for the company...
